YOUR LIBERAL MEDIA Sunday Show lineup: Five shows and only one woman was invited to represent over half of humanity, and CBS’ Face the Nation wisely chose Michele Bachmann for that job. And ABC This Week has a very special guest, one who very rarely makes tv appearances, so get your Tivo ready: John McCain!

Won’t someone think of Republican white men? Oh, wait…

If you feel like the Sunday morning political talk shows are overrun by Republican politicians, their surrogates and other right-wing spinners, you’re actually right, according to a study by Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), a media watchdog group. FAIR’s magazine, Extra! tracked the breakdown of guests featured in one-on-one interviews and roundtable discussions on the four main Sunday morning talk shows,ABC’s “This Week,” NBC’s “Meet the Press,” CBS’s “Face the Nation” and “Fox News Sunday” from June 2011 to March 2012. The results skewed heavily Republican, white and male, with only token representation by blacks and Latinos, and virtually no appearances by guests outside of one of the two national political parties.
[…] It’s worth noting, also, that the liberals typically presented on these programs are mostly centrists with very few out-and-out progressives, leading FAIR to quip that “corporate media’s idea of a debate is conservative ideologues matched by centrist-oriented journalists.” Women and persons of color were wildly underrepresented in round tables. Women guests made up a mere 29 percent of panelists. Roundtable guests were 85 percent white, with 11 percent of guests being African-American and 3 percent Latino.
[The Raw Story]

In a diverse nation, with women comprising just over 50% of the population, why do Republican white men dominate our national media — still?
If you’re so inclined to contact the conservative white men who host the Sunday shows that celebrate conservative white menand their many opinions about non-white people and women (among other things), here’s contact information:

31 months in office: compare 180 to 112 to 61 to 28 (to quitting) →

From Americablog: CNN reports that Palin thinks Obama is ‘tone deaf’ for going on holiday.

CBS’s Mark Knoller demonstrates a technique CNN might care to learn called ‘journalism’. Knoller has been keeping records of Presidential vacations for many years now:

So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.

Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off — 28 days.

If a statement made by a politician is important enough to make it into a headline it is important enough to fact check and compare against previous presidents.

    Good for Mark Knoller!

Does it seem at all ‘tone deaf’ that a woman who QUIT HER JOB HALFWAY THROUGH is complaining about someone taking well-earned vacation time? Why doesn’t the mainstream media comment about that?

This is why Palin and other tea party crazies get so much media attention. They’re reliably crazy and that’s always good filler.

    Trust in Fox News plummets:

Public Policy Polling: Our Second Annual TV News Trust Poll
-A year ago a plurality of Americans said they trusted Fox News. Now a plurality of them don’t. Conservatives haven’t moved all that much- 75% said they trusted it last year and 72% still do this time around. But moderates and liberals have both had a strong increase in their level of distrust for the network- a 12 point gain from 48% to 60% for moderates and a 16 point gain from 66% to 82% for liberals. Voters between left and center tend to be more trusting of the media across the board, which is why a fair number of them were still rating Fox favorably even a year ago at this time. But it looks like with a lot of those folks it has finally crossed the line to being too political to trust.-All three of the traditional major networks- NBC, CBS, and ABC- have seen an increase in their trust levels over the last year. NBC continues to be the most trusted of the trio, breaking even this year at 41% who trust it and 41% who don’t. It may be MSNBC’s liberal tilt that vaults its parent network to the top overall.
